Why does everyone think alll there is to NY is the city? Upstate is beautiful. It's like Vermont or New Hampshire. The fall is beautiful. Come visit the Fingerlakes. It's beautiful here. We have amazing wineries and the lakes are wonderful. I think you would be surprized.

If your talking about the state as a whole and not the city, go up state. Ithaca has beautiful waterfalls and views from the heights of Cornell. Lake placid was the home of the '32 and '80 winter olympics. Way up there is Niagra falls. Lots to do in NY aside from the city.

Museum of Modern Art, Central Park on a good day- the pond, the zoo, free "theater" during the summer... Macy's is fun to wander in during a weekday not so much for the shopping as for the people watching and free samples (cosmetics, perfume, food sometimes...). I don't have a lot of money, so I enjoy the City on the cheap. Pier 17 used to be a fun place many years ago, but I have no idea how it is now.

We had a short visit in the summer. We took the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn and walked back across the Brooklyn Bridge. We tood the Staten Island Ferry out and back (cheaper than a cruise). We were there during miracle mile, so we got to see a bit of The Met and The Gug, both were amazing. We spent the afternoon in Central Park. Really, if you just keep moving and looking around, you'll see great things. Have fun!

Almost nothing... if you like to shop or to go to discos... you will find a lot of "interesting" places indeed. My suggestion, if you are a typical tourist do not miss a photo-shop near the statue of liberty, broklyn bridge and Manhattan skyline to show to your friends...
