Hi there, I'm Venezuelan and I agree with the 2 answers they gave you. You could go to www.ikiratours.com to make reservations. Ask any questions by writing to reservaciones@ikiratours.com, informacion@ikiratours.com. This guys are good on making round trips for the 3 weeks you're going to stay.

I've just been to 3 places in Venezuela. I spent 1 week in each. Merida, Caracas and Margarita. I will be very straight to the point. Margarita not so good. At least for backpackers. No transportation, and you end up spending A LOT in taxis and for just OK beaches and very expensive also. If you are in a resort, (which was really not my case) you'll like it. Caracas. You know what? You SHOULD go. Just ONE day. But you should. In a way, Caracas is Venezuela. It challenges you. See through this point of view. Merida is NICE. I made a superb tamdem flight in a paragliding down the Andes. GREAT. And very nice nightlife. Beautiful city. Did you like Venezuela ? YES. Would you go back ? Mmmmm.......OK.Angel Falls

Los Llanos is amazing if you want to see wildlife - dolphins, cayman, anacondas, pirahnas, etc. It is a fantastic place to visit with fantastic people. Merida is a very safe and nice city to visit. You can use this as a base for many tours including Los Llanos and Catatumbo. From Merida you can do many amazing extreme sports such as canyoning (incredible), paragliding, white water rafting, etc. Merida also has the highest and longest cable car in the world, and a nice cultural theme park. Canaima is one of the most beautiful locations in the world and the gateway to Angel Falls and the Lost World. Roiama is a flat top mountain (tepuiy) you can hike to and up and was recently featured in the Disney animation Up. I 6 day trip but worth it. Chorini - a beach town with some of the best beaches in Venezuela. You take boats from the little town to the different beaches. Really pretty and relaxing place from which you can also explore Henry Pitter park. Los Roques - romantic archipeligo with lovely beaches but very expensive to get to and stay on. Isla Margarita is much cheaper, but Los Roques are pretty much unspoilt. Delta Orinoco - you can take a boat tour of the delta and stay with different tribes along the river bank. There are many other places but I think others have mentioned them. As others say, avoid Caracas.

Go to the Gran Sabana and take the trekking to Roraima... is awesome! A very ancient mountain (it exist since South America and Africa was one!). Ask for Roger in Santa Elena, is a great guide!

Having been here for now 3 years, and having worked for a short while as a tour guide for an agency in Margarita, this is what I can recommend: avoid the big cities, there is very little preserved, and it's not really worth the hassle and risk to view. Especially, avoid Caracas. Go for nature and landscapes. The places I've been to are mainly the Orinoco Delta, the Lagune of Canaima and Salto Angel, and the Gran Sabana with it's table-top mountains. I plan on climbing the Roraima some day. That is certainly a trip worth making. I could contact some people in the Gran Sabana, if you want, to get you information about the possible tours. Those would normaly start in Ciudad Bolivar, one of the few towns worth a stay of 1-2 days, to visit the historical town center. From there you can also go on a trip to the Lagune of Canaima, which is quite beautifull, and served as background for many movies, and to Angel Falls (or rather Kerepakupai Meru, as the locals named it way before Jimmy Angel ever saw it). The Orinoco Delta is worth a tour, definitively, but I'm not sure I can recommend the Boral Lodge. It's a private lodge owned by the turism company Aerotuy. I'd have to check for some good lodge, as I haven't found any of those I went to really satisfying. Either the service, or the location was lacking, in my eyes. If you plan on visiting the Orinoco Delta, let me know, and I'll research some. Otherwise you might consider going to the Amazonas region, if you're interested in Rainforests. The Llanos are worth a detour, even though I've only ever been to the very edge of them. This is flat country, and it's the cow-boy land :) Depending on the lodge, you'd have good chances of seeing Boas or Anacondas as well as Caimans. The region of Merida, in the Andes, is also worth a visit. I haven't been there yet, as the tours I was working on never went there, and since reverting to a desk job I haven't had the chance, but my husband is from there, and what he described, and the pictures I saw all say it's an interesting place to visit. Los Roques, as already mentioned, if you like hanging on the beach, snorkeling and diving, is definitely a must. Take a lot of sunscreen, as it's the absolute best place to get burned. You have tours to different islands around the Archipelago, so there's a bit to visit. Margarita is not worth more than a couple of days. The beaches are not that great, especially for swiming, and appart from La Asuncion and El Valle, there's little to visit town-wise, so don't include it in any plans unless you have to book a flight to/from there. The Island is worth mentioning because it has the second-oldest (as far as I could determine) church of South-America (in La Asuncion), and the ruins of the first town in South-America on the neighbouring small Island of Cubagua.

Los Roques is a must - even if you just go for a day trip. If you are in Caracas for a few days, it is worth taking up trip up the Avila mountain.

Well, maybe the best tip I could give you is not to go in Venezuela at all, in this period. The political and economic situation is not so good and there's much hate blowing in the main coties street: from january 550 people murdered! Anyway, you should also stay far to Caracas and big cities and visit the rest of it: must are canaima/salto angel, margarita (a windsurf/kitesurf temple), los roques. Enjoy your holiday!

1. Go to Angel Falls. You can book trips locally from Ciudad Bolivar, then get a flight to Canaima followed by an upriver trip by dugout, hike to the falls and then stay in a nearby camp by the river, with return by dugout the next day for about US$200. Word of advice, take cash and lots of it, ATMs and Exchanges will give you official exchange rate, which is about half the black market rate, and everyone works to the black market rate...
