Slovakia of corse... There are the High Tatras- a beautiful place to visit, also many caves and historical castles. The biggest icecave in the world is located here! People are sticked to traditions with lots of festivals and cultural events. Kosice in eastern slovakia is worth visiting- with its historical city centre with a beatiful church of st elisabeth. In levoca is the highest gothic altar in the world.

Hungary and Bosnia-Hercegovina were definitely my 2 favorites in Eastern Europe. I fell in love with Budapest because it has everything any visitor could look for in a good time abroad -- great (and cheap) transportation system, good food, historical and cultural value, an awesome nightlife, and the list goes on. Sarajevo is more low-key, but definitely just as interesting. Its history is by far probably one of the most convoluted of the Balkan countries. Also, if you have any interest in world religions, this is the place to visit, as Sarajevo is one of the points of convergence of Islam and Christianity, as evident in the juxtaposition of mosques and churches.

Croatia is beautiful. They have lakes, parks, beautiful (and easily navigated) cities, anhd wonderful coastal venues. Hungary and the Czech Republic are both also wonderful. Prague, though very commercialized, is a wonderful city -- and it was not destroyed during WWII so retains its historic sharm. Small villages in the plains of Hungary are great, as is Budapest!

Every country in Eastern Europe is worth visiting because they all have different things to offer! Come for the summer and work your way through them while they're still cheap.

Eastern/Central Europe. The Imperial capitals of the Czech Republic and Hungary (Prague and Budapest respectively - both with UNESCO World Heritage site monuments and districts) are definitely "must sees" for example. However, outside of these cities, neither country really offers anything else spectacular. If you are more interested in a combination of culture nature, Romania might be a country to consider. The capital Bucharest is far from being a world class city, however you can find some nice boulevards, parks, museums, and excellent quality restaurants at still reasonable prices. However, the real beauty of the country lies in the areas of Transylvania (mountains, quaint towns like Brasov, Sibiu, Sighisoara, castles including the famed Bran castle - a.k.a. Dracula's castle - and Peles castle), and Moldova (where you find the unique painted monasteries - UNESCO World Heritage site). Also the coast (on the Black Sea) provides a nice oasis, particularly in the summer months although in recent years, has become a little more expensive. It also goes without saying that Greece (yes, its part of Eastern Europe) is an absolute must. I haven't been to Poland (although my mother has and said Krakow, more so than Warsaw, is worth seeing) or Russia (or its former states) and only passed through Bulgaria (Albena again on the Black Sea)and Serbia so I can't give you much feedback on these places.

Hungary if you "enlarge" the idea of Eastern Europe. Romania (also somewhere between Central and Eastern Europe) is quite interesting.

I would recommend Croatia. It has a bit of an Eastern Europe feel, but with more creature comforts than you might find in Serbia or Romania.

Poland's worth visiting. Cracow is often compared to Prague but in fact there's much more to see in the whole region of south Poland. For instance Zakopane, Wieliczka Salt Mine, Ojcow National Park or Oswiecim.

I enjoyed Budapest a lot. The city is divided into two parts each at the other side of the water. The water makes the view really great. Hotels are still kind of cheap, restaurants and bars are overall kind of trendy. Must-see!

Definitely Poland. I find Prague extremely touristy, although worth visiting. If u go to Czech, try to venture off major cities. Warsaw is an old commie city but if you look closer, old town's got its own character and warsaw rising museum is def worth visiting. My friend and I also enjoyed Krakow way better than Prague, at least we know what local people look like... p.s. whoever named France, Spain, England needs a geography lesson.

czech republic, and there definetly prague (history, party) and the outstanding castle "Hluboká" in the south (near Ceske Budejovice). if you're interrested in history anyway there are many relics (castles, towns) from middleage and in Terezin (north of prague) stands an old nazi concentration camp.

As Eastern Europe was mentioned i don't understand why France, Spain, etc comes in the picture at all...however these countries are truly wonderful, the 'real' Eastern European states shouldn't be neglected. I recommend Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro and Bulgaria from the countries i have been to and heard loads of great things about Poland and the Baltic states too. Tough choice and also depends on which time of the year you want to travel

depends on the time you have and things you like, but i would suggest Check Rep. (Prague) South Poland (Cracow, Wieliczka Salt Minor, Auschwitz, Tatra Mountains, Zakopane. If you go to poland only, add on your way: Wroclaw, Torun (city of Copernicus) and Warsaw - many say it is just ugly capitaly city, but i would say you shouldn't miss it.
