My favourite location in New Zealand would have to be Hanmer Springs, which is located around 140km North of Christchurch (a two-and-a-half hour drive). It's a small town with great activities and accommodation, ranging from thrill seeking activities, such as bungee jumping and jet boating, to relaxing in the thermal pools.

The Coromandel peninsula and Rotorua on the North island. On the South island I liked the Milford Sound and the glaciers most.

Great barrier island is by far the best bang for buck. its located 50nm north east of auckland city and is partially inhabited and the rest made up of a government reserve. some amazing surf on the east coast of the island and some of the most stunning scenery you will bear witness to.

I think it's Lake Matheson, near Fox glacier - Stunningly beautiful. Totally calm lake, reflecting Mount Cook in the background so that if you get the angle JUST right, you can't tell which way is up or which is down in photos. Just try to go when it's clear

Kaikoura and the Southern Alps are gorgeous. I love Wellington because it is a smalltown with plenty and interesting things around each corner. Auckland is okay, but only if you like big cities.

South Island is very scenic. Especially the west coast. If you were going to travel around, its best to go down the middle, torwards, Chch and Dunedin ending up in Queenstown and back up the West coast! Stunning.

The West Coast of the South Island is amazing! Can be very wet and/or cold, but stunning. Punakaiki rocks, Franz Josef glacier, the Haast Pass which takes you south towards Wanaka and Queenstown for some killer skiing!!

Anywhere in the South Island... I grew up in Christchurch and prefer it definately to the North. My fav would have to be Tekapo though, gorgeous mirror lakes with snow caps in the winter and fields of lupins in the spring!!
