In LA - Well, in Culver City there is the best Empanada Place off of Sawtelle Blvd. In Hollywood: Anarkali has great Indian food and is never too crowded (which is amazing) off of Melrose & Orange. Miceli's also in Hollywood serves great Italian food. If you're on more of a budget, Thai town has tons of fast Thai take-out. If you can make it up to Burbank or Glendale, Porto's is a must! In Atwater is one of the best hole in the walls ever for breakfast burritos - Tacos Villa Corona. Just make sure you get there early enough since their hours vary.

Dim sum in chinatown is pretty good, best to go on the weekend around 10 - 12. The weekend will be busy, but there will be more and fresher foods available than weekdays. As for a place to stay, I would recommend downtown only because you can access everything through bus and train. If you love italian food stop by north beach =]

http://www.rnglounge.com/ R&G is an amazing restaurant - best Chinese food I have ever had and for a reasonable price. For Japanese try Fujiyama-Ya Japanese Restaurant‎ in the Sunset District. Good and affordable sushi! Fisherman's Wharf is generally overpriced and not that great - very touristy.

In LA, many restaurants around Santa Monica are the best. Duke's in Malibu is great, The Stinking Rose in LA is yummy if you enjoy garlic, The Counter in Santa Monica is best for a great burger... it all depends on your food preferences and budget!

I've just remembered that there's a good restaurant on 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica which is Locanda del Lago. Another one is PF Changs (on wilshire blv at the end of the Promenade) and Il Fornaio (on Ocean ave). Hope this helps!

For LA: shop and eat at Century City Mall, beautiful mall in the open (you can sunbathe while walking around), great choice of shops and brands. Great food court to have a bite, or head to Toscanova (beautiful italian restaurant with amazing food) located at the mall. Other option to shop is the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica: great range of shops, but restaurants there are just ok. To go out at night try the Bazaar bar at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills or The Standard Downtown (check out my reviews).

In San Francisco you can find a Lori's Diner on almost every block it seems. The food is "safe". It's your average run of the mill 50's style diner. Like I said, they're safe. Don't be afraid to try other things.... There are SO many places to eat in San Francisco. If you want a great meal and don't mind spending the money, try Scoma's on the wharf. We had dinner for 4 and dropped $350 but it was worth it. The food was excellent!

As far as San Francisco goes, I'd reccomend the Westfield mall in downtown area as the greatest shopping place in San Fran if not in the entire U.S. and if have the opportunity to go to china town go to that gorgeous looking Chinese Buffet on California St.

Honestly I'd avoid Fisherman's wharf, too touristy... And also, in SF don't stay at the rodeway inn hotel on Eddy st. Disgusting! In LA we were at the Best Western in Hollywood, kinda cool, far from downtown LA though. In LA I'd go to the Universal Studios, I think it's worth it. The simpsons 4d movie is awesome and the tour of the studios too!

The best burger place (and a large beer selection) in Los Angeles is in Playa Del Raye called Outlaw's located at 230 Culver Blvd. While in the area, make sure to spend time on the beach at Dockweiler State Beach, it is public and if you park on the road and walk down, it is free.

I don't know about LA but we had a great time eating at Lori's Diner, and the food was great (it's 50-ies style fast food reasturant, there are few of them in SF), and for lunch we found this place called Julies Kitchen with fresh cooked food, I can't remember the exact address but it's near Greyhound Bus main station, it's like in this small square souranded with buildings, in that same square it's subway, restaurant with soups, pizza place and so on. We were sleeping in Hostel San Francisco downtown and I don't like it. I heard that the other hostel is much better, or Sir Francis Drake Hotel which is near this downtown hostel.
