Calangute is a great area. I stayed about a 15-20 min walk away from the main town/beach area and it was GREAT! The self-catering complex was called Mantheven and it was VERY nice. I paid a great price, went just as the season was ending, and would go again. I walked around the other hotels, about 10, and they were all rough compared to this place. It really is on Western levels and the owners are just so helpful. They will advise you on scooter hire and also taxis and such. Mantheven has its own beach just 5 min walk away and then if you want to hit the big tourist style part then it is a very short taxi/scooter ride or about 15 miin by foot. If ya want anymore info on this place then get me on Facebook, will sort you an email and phone number. Check them on the web. Hope this helps? It was my first visit to Goa and this place just made the trip, really modern and clean rooms that were very large.

Depends what you want. If you want pubs and lots of package tourists then Callangute, Candollim, Baga etc. If you want a more laid-back "hippy" type place with interesting characters and beautiful beaches then head to Mandrem Beach (2km from Arambol) or Aswem. Arambol beach is a bit dirty now but lots of good restaurants. You can simply turn up and find great places to stay with stunning views for very little money. I have spent lots of time here and have to say it's one of my favourite places!! I'd love to know how you find it.

Thanks a lot for your response. I'm going in November and I'm looking for a nice beach, cheap place to stay (but not super cheap that affects its quality but i got used living in guesthouses so i'm ok with it)Should I book it ahead or I can find the place upon arrival? I 'm considering now Arambol and Anjuna. Does anybody know anything about Anjuna? and where are most of the parties?
