Ancient town of Butrint is in about 30min by bus from Sarande... Great place, ruins, just one restaurant... Nice place! The town is situated in the picturesque peninsula of the lake of Butrint... Small venetian castle and even a little ferry are there too :) You need about 2-3 hrs to walk around...

The bus station is in the center of sarande- ask Information centre, near to main sq... Ticket price is about 1 EUR...

We went here on a day trip from Corfu. It was fascinating to see the old "theatre" and ruins. The views from the top were breathtaking and I would recommend this trip to anyone who has even a slight interest in the history of Albania. The tour guide we had was extremely knowledgable and friendly, she answered any questions we had throughout the trip.

Just south of Saranda are the ancient ruins of Butrint. Most of the ruins are from the Roman period but the site was occupied much earlier than that. There is a good museum on the site displaying finds made there.Well worth a visit - allow at least two hours.
