The ancient roman city of Djemila is one of the best preserved excavations in Algeria. It includes a theatre, several temples, fora and baths.  The city was built under the name Cuicul in the first century A.D., but is now called Djemila, which is Arabic for "beautiful one". It was given its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the unique way Roman architecture was adapted to a mountain environment. The museum, where many intact mosaics are on display, can be visited for an additional 20 dinar.
