Situated in the centre of Mendoza, Plaza Independencia is a beautifully landscaped area filled with various trees, museums, government buildings, taking an area of roughly four square blocks.  Designed in 1863, two years after a major earthquake devastated the region, the plaza was remodeled recently in 1995.

Some of the grander buildings include the Legislatura Provincial (built in 1889), the Teatro Independencia Theatre (built in 1925), the Museo de Arte Moderno (Museum of Modern Arts), the Casa de Gobierno Government House, and the Colegio Nacional National College.

Es una plaza hermosa, super limpia, arbolada y con una feria de artesanos permanente.
