The Erebuni Fortress, Yerevan was built in the last quarter of the 8th century BC by King Argishti I. The Erebuni Fortress, Yerevan is a Urartuan stronghold which is situated within the city area. The archaeological remains found here proves the existence of the people of these area for three thousand years. Excavations began at the Erebuni Fortress site in 1959 after a farmer found a stone tablet with writing on it in the dirt.

Some other attractions in Yerevan include the Blue Mosque - the last remaining mosque in the city, the Haghtanak Park - which honours Armenia's participation in World War II, and the statue of Mother Armenia  protecting Yerevan.  As well there is the Cascade with its staircase and waterfalls, and the Armenia Genocide Museum - remembering one of the lesser known genocides in history.
