The Matenadaran Manuscript Museum is a world-class museum that is the home for Armenia's manuscripts and history.  It is located at the top of Mashtots Avenue and has statues of prominent Armenians located in front.  The Matenadaran Manuscript Museum is dedicated to procuring, organizing, and safeguarding Armenian manuscripts, of which it has around 17,000 manuscripts (and around 50,000 total documents).  These documents came from churches, schools, and private donations.  Most of the manuscripts are not on display, but are available for researchers and academics with special permission.

Highlights of the collection include manuscripts such as the Echmiadzin Gospels (created in 989 at the Monastery of Bgheno-Noravank), the 7th century Vehamor Gospel,  and the Mugni Gospels (created in 1060).  There is also the massive Msho Charentir manuscript that weighs around 70 pounds.

Some other attractions in Yerevan include the Blue Mosque - the last remaining mosque in the city, the Haghtanak Park - which honours Armenia's participation in World War II, and the statue of Mother Armenia  protecting Yerevan.  As well there is the Cascade with its staircase and waterfalls, and the Armenia Genocide Museum - remembering one of the lesser known genocides in history.

It was my favourite mueum in Yerevan. It's a wonderful collection of books, cyclopedias. Verrrry old, and verrrrry big, and verrrrrry small... you can find plenty kinds of books here, but the ornamentation is beautiful all of them!
There are so many special books, kodex. not for its exhibitions per se, but rather for its status as the eternal (one hopes) repository for Armenia's medieval written culture.

Don't miss this museum if you are in Yerevan!

The place and their exposition is literally un***believable.

Nothing compares to the letters that are thousands of years old and yet look as they've been written minutes earlier.

Also, ask for the story of figure in front of the building. You may learn that the guy created the Georgian alphabet, too - obviously by simply reversing the Armenian one. :)

A great museum to learn about the history of Armenia. If this was not enough, the amazing collection also includes some rare items from outside Armenia (Persian manuscripts among them). A must see for everyone visiting Armenia. Here one can understand the deep reverence the Armenians have for their alphabet and its mentor, Mesrop Mashtots.
