Petroglyphs
Situated about 3000 metres above sea level on top of Ughtasar Mountain, the Ughtasar Petroglyphs are a series of over 2000 ancient rock engravings that are between 4 to 7 thousand years old depicting everything from the animals at the time to ancient rituals, hunting scenes, religious dances, and more.

Reaching the area is for the determined, and requires access via a sturdy 4x4 as there are no real roads leading up to the region.  The petroglyphs are only visible during the summer, as they are covered in snow for most of the year.

One of Armenia's least known and interesting attractions is the top of Ughtasar Mountain.  Aside from the natural beauty of the mountaintop valley, the views and the small lake, there is an abundance of ancient petroglyphs aged between 4 to 7 thousand years old.  Unfortunately, this is one of the most difficult places to reach, with a solid 4x4 needed and with no real roads leading up to it, compounded by a short visiting season.

Getting there:
By Road
As there are no fixed paths, access is by a sturdy 4x4 followed by hiking .  It is about 1.5 hours away from Ishkhanasar Village, near the town of Sisian.

Mountain, petroglyphs, 4x4, green and black and white and red and blue and brown (the colours of the mountain :o))), flowers, snow, black rocks, grass, tarns and a compulsive artist! (and the driver! kind, kind man :o)))
This is 1 of my favourite place where I've ever been!
If you travel to Armania you have to go there. Just travel to Sisian and there is a painter who organise trips to Ughtasar.

We came here by 4wd and a painter, he's a real artist. He made this day for us to perfect. He told us plenty of stories about the mountain and stones, and we made some mystic stuff (for example: standing on the 'portal' stone, and feel the wind was coming). All of my cells felt this is a special place!
