Western Plains Zoo is a fantastic zoo and is the reason most people travel to Dubbo.  You can hire bikes at the entrance and spend the day cycling around viewing the animals, which I thoroughly recommend.  The zoo is designed in such a way that you aren't looking through fences to view the animals which makes it a lot more interesting than many zoos.  When we were there the apes put on a wonderful display and kept everybody entertained for hours, I was told they do this fairly regularly.

Great open air zoo, been twice, you can drive your car or ride a bike through or just walk. Take a picnic, pack the sunscreen and hat.

The Western Plains zoo is huge, and it gives you the opportunity to get really closer to the animals.

Great for the larger animals you dont realy see in standard zoo's. A good day out.
