Uluru (Ayers Rock)
About Uluru (Ayers Rock)
One of Australia's most recognizable icons, Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock) is a distinctive large sandstone rock formation situated in the central Australia within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. What's most striking is that the colour of the rock can appear to change depending on the time of the day. Colours range from a silvery grey to a fiery red. Uluru was named by the local Pitjantjatjara people, although there is no specific meaning associated with the word.
Uluru is a World Heritage Site. Payment Accepted:

Jul 8, 2009 Had a fantastic trip to Uluru. Stayed at the Sails In The Desert hotel in the Ayres Rock Resort. The hotel was nice... extremely expensive and probably about a 4 star at a 5 star price. There were lots of other accommodation options which looked not bad once I was there and saw it... I would probably pick one of these others if I ever go again. The organised tours were great. We went Camel Riding through the desert (recomended to do at least once in your life) but it was difficult to get good photos or video because you couldn't carry anything on the camels (no bags, no bum bags... only one camera). The 'Sounds of Silence' dinner in the desert was fantastic. Definately not for small children but the food was great and the set up amazing! The star talk was really interesting but we went when there was a full moon and you couldn't really see much of the Milky way because the moon was to bright. I really liked it though. The various tours of around the Rock are great... obviously you need to see at least one sunset and one sunrise and visiting the Cultural Centre is a must. Great authentic Aboriginal artwork here and a chance to learn much about the culture right from the people that now it best. Jun 27, 2009 Just the most amazing place to visit!! The desolation is total, with literally nothing around you for thousands of miles in all directions. the outback pioneer lodge caters for all taste from dorms to luxery apartments. To do list, sunrise over the rock ( beware it,s a 3am get up but unreal, helicopter flight is around £70 and the flight last about a hour, again worth doing. The best on e is the sound of silence dinner, sunset looking at the rock and Kata Juta. the night sky is the best you'll ever see ABSOLUTLEY NO LIGHT POLUTION. you can easly see the edge of our galaxy and more. Apr 8, 2009 Take a hiking tour to big rocks close to Alice Springs, one of those The Ayers Rock. Experience sleeping in a swag under the stars in the middle of nowhere, hike in the heat of the sun in wonderful sceneries and feel the lovelyness of swimming in a small lake between the rocks and so on. You learn to appreciate this experience after doing it, when you have done a few days without shower and cold drinking water! Oct 17, 2008 While the photos and the postcards show it, being there gives you the opportunity to feel it!! And that's worth more than the photos. Don't bother with all the sunrise and sunset photos, besides it's too crowded with all the multitudes of buses and cars vying for space. Do spend time walking around it and investigating the nooks and crannies in this great monolith. Oct 30, 2008 Growing up in Australia you see images of Uluru everywhere but actually seeing it in reality is still an amazing experience. There's something special about this enormous rock in the middle of the desert and it isn't hard to understand why it's a sacred place to the indigenous population. The first time I went out there I was worried I was going to be disappointed, I wasn't, I was impressed!
