The downtown area of many cities is not an attractive area for visitors. The Queen St Mall in Brisbane is different. It is a safe, pedestrian area with interesting buskers at peak times like the weekends. There is security in the area, so it is generally safe.

Not fantastic, but a half decent place to shop. Check out O'Malleys for a drink, and Rocking Horse Records for music. There's a large selection of chain stores, some good, some average. It's a outdoor mall, don't get your hopes up.

Massive shopping area with no pestering traffic. Every type of shop you can imagine is there and just a short stroll from the cities man made beach and Brisbane river.

A fun place to get a feel for Brissie. Crowded with more tourists than residents, at times, though. Wide variety of shopping, eats and things to see.

great place to just chill out with friends, though walking around listening to the buskers in the evening is super fun.
