I love this zoo. I am aways trying to find an excuse to go- my younger cousin, overseas visitors etc. You need to spend the day here beacuse there is so much to see. For a slightly different approach, in the warmer months the zoo has a 'roar and snore' program where you camp out at the zoo and have a private night tour of the zoo, and get to spend the whole next day at the zoo. We fed the giraffes the next morning before anyone else was at the zoo. For more info, see the zoo website.

One of the best day's out you can have in Sydney. Catch the ferry from Circular Quay for great views of the city skyline, the Opera House and the Botanical Gardens. Plus see the Sydney home of our Prime Minister and life on the water. If you're using the train as well as ferry, buy a day tripper ticket which includes travel on the train, ferry and Sydney Buses, plus gives you discount on entry to the zoo (15% last time I went!) When you get to the zoo ride the sky safari to the top entrance for a bird's eye view of the zoo - plus its better to start at the top of the zoo and walk down the hill than start at the bottom and walk up!
If you're travelling on a budget, take your own lunch and water, because, like all other tourist destinations, food can be pricey inside the zoo. If not, the cafeteria style restaurant not far from the seals is the best bet. Try to time your lunch for the seal show - get there early to see it, the seats fill fast! Don't forget to take in the great views of the city as well as the animals!

This zoo is definately worth a visit no matter what your age. The best and most spectacular way to get there is by ferry from Circular Quay. You can get a combined train, ferry and entrance ticket. Get there early as there is so much to see and there are many, many different shows to see. When you get there get a map and work out where you want to go and when so that you can fit in the shows that you want to see otherwise you'll be up and down the hill that the zoo is built on all day and that can be very tiring in the Sydney heat. Take sun block and a hat, you'll need them, plus water. You can also get your picture taken with a number of different animals and that is great fun, for a fee of course. The cafe's aren't up to much, that would be my only criticism.

Catch the ferry from the harbour. If you haven't been there before its a great time to take photos of the harbour bridge and the opera house.
The ferry ride isn't too long. when you get to the zoo there is a bus that takes you to the top of the zoo. There are heaps of animals there, including a newer enclosure for the elephants.
When you are ready to leave, there is a gondola that takes you back down so you get a birds eye view of some of the enclosures.
