fitzroy is one the best neighborhoods in melbourne. its quite ecclectic, a mixture of styles. all sorts of handouts are found there. there is salsa places like the Laundry or the Night Cat, and then there is jazz and rock joints too. its one of those not-too-bothered style of neighborhoods. they say its changing though, its getting gentrified, and the artists are beginning to find it expensive and move elsewhere, as the box-shops move in. nice ecclectic trendy place though!

You want Melbourne in one suburb and/or day? head to Fitzroy and Collingwood and specifically Brunswick st, Gurtrude st and Smith st. Great for shopping (bargains aswell as boutiques), nightlife (Bimbos is good w. nice pizzas and Cheap Tuesday), Art (Check out one of the many small scale galleries, also check out "third drawer down" and the street art) and great cafes and restaurants from many cultural backgrounds.
