The Queen Victoria Market is locally known as the Vic Market. It was officially opened on 20 March 1878. Many of the buildings date back to to this time.
The market is only a few minutes walk from the city centre or catch a tram along Elizabeth St or William St.

The market is divided in two by Queen Street......upper and lower. The lower is dominated by the Meat Hall, which sells fresh fish as well. It is a real experience to enter this hall and listen to the traders yelling out their specials. The Dairy Hall is well stocked with delis, bakeries and poultry shops. Plenty of yummy lunchtime food available too.
The upper market is renowned for it's variety and quantity of fruit and vegetables. This is where you will also find a huge array of clothing, leather goods, manchester, fabrics, jewellery, handicrafts and souvenirs.

Queen Victoria is a living, breathing, crazy, fun, and sometimes overwhelming market, and a must see for anyone visiting Melbourne . Someone could literally spend an entire day, even a week, and not see all the various stalls and venders that call the Vic market home. It has something for everyone--fresh foods, clothes, shoes, toys, handmade crafts, and for tourists, an amazing array of souvenirs ranging from authentic Australian crafts such as boomerangs and didgeridoos to little key chain koalas and kangaroos. Perfect for little presents to bring home for friends and family.

Best known to tourists as a great place to buy Aussie trinkets to take home, but for locals the place is renowned for its fine fresh food. The dips are particularly good. In summer, the Night Market features cuisine from around the world and live music, and is a must-see for both locals and visitors!

Touted as Melbourne's greatest market, this one lives up to it's hype. It's a fantastic way to kill an afternoon and would be an excellent way to pick up some souvenirs without blowing the budget. A must see if you're in Melbourne on the days that it's open.

Great place to shop your groceries and souvenirs. for souvenirs, you will get China-made stuff, as usual. Try to bargain as much as you can. Some shops give better prices than other, like buy 5 get 1 free. Check around first before you decide to buy.
