the name of "batavia" sounds familiar for me. it's the dutch name of jakarta or jayakarta, the capital city of indonesia --place where i spend almost 15 years of my life. tracking back time about its name, i stumbled upon freo's shipreck museum. it's about long history of the dutch entering western australia and the voc's [vereenigde oost indische compagnie] batavia which was supposed to be anchoring in jakarta but due to the mutiny amongst the sailors, it's aground then sank in the beach that known as batavia beach nowadays. more than 200 years on the seabed, here she is ... in the museum.
