Eisriesenwelt, located inside the Hochkogel mountain in the Alps, is the largest ice cave in the world.  Chilly winds that blow through the caves keeps it from melting during the summer.  The caves covers an area over 42km and was first discovered in 1879.  The first cracks and crevasses forming the cave structure is estimated to have formed over 100 million years ago.  The cave is accessed via cable car, and guided tours are available to explore the cave.

It is best to wear heavy shoes and warm clothing, as the temperatures are regularly below freezing.  During the tours, lamps are handed out at the cave entrance.
