Building
This apartment house was designed by Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1977, after he received a letter from Vienna's mayor offering him a property for him to build a house according to his "ideas and wishes".  Hundertwasser's work is marked by bright colors, organic forms, the marrying of nature with human construction (trees often grow out of his buildings), and notable absence of straight lines.  The house in Vienna is an excellent example of his unusual style, with onion-dome towers, spirals, headstones, detailed facades, ceramic columns, and mosaics.  While it is currently inhabited by a group of tenants, and its interior is consequently closed to the public, the house's fascinating exterior is well-worth a visit.

Hundertwasser started to build appartments with very low cost in Vienna (thinking in that way especially for the poor people) using a lot of shiny colours in order to put life in their spirit...very unsymetric architecture. BUT, "unfortunately" these appartaments are so beautiful that no one has a chance to live inside...except the rich people.

Hundertwasser Haus is just a great work of art!

And what maybe few know is that there are also two huge Hundertwasser's buildings (incinerator plants) on an island in the bay of Osaka, Japan. These are also just magical - like a fairy tail :))) More info here:

Very colourful, a bit crazy architecture - too bad you can't visit it inside - there are normal houses. But it looks really interesting, if you like this style, of course. Hundertwasser did design many similiar buildings around Wien and Austria (and maybe even elsewhere).

unique piece of architecture...can't go inside since people live in it. not everybody likes Hundertwasser's style, but if you're into architecture, go and see it. plus, there's Kunsthaus Wien just around the corner which holds a large collection of his paintings
