Emperor Franz Joseph and his Elisabeth lived here with their children and the entire royal household. From this location they represented the realm of the Habsburg and directed its politics.

The Hofburg is very impressive and indeed there is much more to see here than you would think. Come prepared to spend some hours around its museums and halls!
