Jan 29, 2010 It takes a quite long and pretty scary boattrip to get to this Island. Only very small boats make the crossing from the mainland to the Island. The journey includes the Gulf of Bengal so be sure no bad weather is coming or you'll be in trouble. Once on the Island life is completely primitive. I've never seen anything like it. Power only for 4 hours a day. A part from fishing there is little food on the Island itself so they depend on the small boats coming and going once a week. On one side of the Island there is a beautiful mangrove forest, very pretty sunsets and very peaceful walks on the beach. Not a tourist ANYWHERE! Definitely worth seeing but you have to hang out there at least for a week since boats don't go more often, so if you are not into primitive lifestyle, DON'T GO. Very hospitable people! Only one hostel. Outside showers and water only from the pump.. Related Links
