Dhaka is NOT the place to get your nose pierced. I found that out the hard way. What possessed me to even consider getting a piercing in a third world country? I am still being asked that. My friend Eliza and myself were driven by our driver to a Dhaka beauty salon. That in itself was an interesting experience. Our accompanying males had to wait outside. on the inside, the women were friendly and very interested in us. English was limited to non verbal "Ouch Ouch??" questioning before undergoing the piercing gun. Eliza went first. She reassured me it didn't hurt that much. I later found out it did. With a stud being shot thru my nose I had the most awesome head wobble on video. There was an interested audience of women interested in us while the salon manager when outside to our accompanying males to give them a prescription for pain killers and to explain to them our post piercing care. We naturally did not get told this! A great experience for 400 taka. Unfortunately 5 days later infection set in. The nose stud was removed, despite about 100 kids from the orphanage I was visiting in trying to fix it for me. Lesson Learnt: No piercings in Dhaka. Visit the salon for a manicure next time.
