This cityhall constructed in Renaissance style was constructed to replace a much older in Gothic style and dominates the Grand Market with it's guidlhouses completely. It's location was well chosen as it was build in front of a row of guild-houses who represented the civil power in the Middle Ages where in the Renaissance the power balance shifted to the city council.

its very nice building in front there is a square with a fountain ,you should ask the people what the fountain means because its a legend about how the city is called Antwerp
