Damme is a beautiful little town just outside of Bruges, and its high point (literally) is Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk, literally the Church of Our Holy Lady. The church was built with Gothic spires back when Damme was a more powerful trading town, but when the town fell on harder times, half of the sanctuary roof was removed and the gothic spire of the tower was dismantled to save on maintenance costs. Still, the church is beautiful, and a climb to the top reveals the star-shaped walls around the town that used to be protective ramparts.
