Sep 30, 2008 I studied in Blue Creek (or Rio Azul) through the Maya Research Program. We were doing salvage archaeology in the area. I went in the programs 10th year (they're on year 17 now). The ruins in Blue Creek are hard to find. If you go through the program or during the rainy season you'll more than likely find some archaeologists or students working and will be able to find out a ton. Blue Creek was an anomaly. They found a large jade cache there and a ball court, but it's a very small city, which more than likely meant that someone of importance lived there. It is an intriguing place filled with many cultures even today. The Mayan's that live there are amazingly wonderful people! They live nearby in San Filipe. But the program never would have taken off if it weren't for the help of the Mennonites in the area. They cooked and cleaned for us. We were infused with so many different cultures, I didn't get out of culture shock until long after my return home! Related Links
