The Tiahuanacu empire comprised nearly half of present-day Bolivia, southern parts of Peru, the northwest section of Argentina and nearly half of Chili and it was the longest running of all Andean civilisations. The exact reasons why this empire fell is still unknown but disappeared rapidly.

Today you can visit the archaeological site and the adjacent archaeological museum. A few of the bigger monuments and temples have been restored.

For people who like archaeology this is great for all the other people it is a bit barren. The museum is really good and gives you a good idea about the history of this city and the culture with the same name. Most of the temples have been restored and can be visited. On site the explanation was a bit scarce and all in Spanish. A good half a day trip from La Paz.

Fantastic site. Only partially restored (and probably not accurately restored), but work is on-going at the site when money permits. The site was looted by the Spanish, but is still impressive, especially given the location.

OK, it´s good to see but do not expect nothing really exciting - there are only "few" stones. To me seemed more interesting the village in the neighborhood with natural people...
