Museo Arte Indígina
About Museo Arte Indígina
This museum gives you an idea about the local indigenous groups and their distinctive textiles. It houses exhibiotns on contamperary daily dress, ritual costumes, old photographs, there are explanations on the iconography of the textiles and live weaving demonstrations. The museum is run by ASUR (Antropologicas del Sur Andina), started by a Spanish-Chilean couple. This organisation saved the weaving tradition of the Jalq'a and now it is triving again. In the museum shop you can buy the genuine article supporting the ASUR's cause.

Sep 10, 2009 Absolutly loved it. To be honest, I was there with a textile nut and he infected me with his enthousiasm. The museum is very clear and open with lots of things to see and discover. Very clear explanations. For people who can't get enough of it you can visit the museum the next day with the same ticket. You can get information about excursion to the surrounding villages where textile traditions have been revived. The profit of the shop goes towards the whole project and it is a bit of a trap, because after such a beautiful museum you just have to buy something there.
