"Most" means "bridge" in serbo-croat. It gives you an idea on how central is the bridge for "Mostar". The bridge is the place where the Ottoman world meets Balkanic europa. A point of fusion giving to Mostar its fantastic personnality. Destroyed by HVO shelling in 1993 the bridge was rebuilt by IFOR engineering troops who took the original stones from where they fell in the river. A great effort. During summer season Mostar's daredevils are diving from the bridge: there is then a crowd watching and applauding those acrobats.
Stari Most is one of my favourite places ever. each time I go to Mostar I stand at the middle of the bridge, listening to the song of the river below, enjoying the so specific atmosphere of the Turkish old quarter, entirely renovated, surrounding the bridge. This place is magic.

this place brings a lot of memories. Saw it when I was a child and I still remember how amazed I was by its beauty. Its been there for houndreds of years and than during the war it got bombed and ruined completely! Fortunetaly it has now been restored and people from Mostar are so proud to have it back! If u are ever in that part of the world, go and see it. Sit on the bank of the river and u will feel what I felt. Speak to Mostar people about it and u will get the most amazing stories about it. Read a bit about it and u will understand its importance in Mostars history......I would love to see it again - the new Old Bridge!

Great history about this little town,but I felt even closer to make history when we started fishin' out the old pieces from Neretva.I served during that time at Hungarian Eng.Cont.whit SFOR.We had a great time,even find Turkish cannonballs deep down the river awsome suvenir!

A common sight is people who`ve lost their mind and voluntarly jump of the bridge... it`s not that much water underneath... they do survive:) sourounded by small streets were you find small coffe shops as well as souvenirs, souvenirs and souvenirs..

quando l'ho visto la prima volta, era solo un accumulo di pietre...rovinato dalle guerre..con sorpresa qualche anno dopo è stato riedificato..pensate che ci sono voluti anni e anni perchè nessuno riusica a comprenderne l'architettura! andateci, è un posto magico.
