Built in 1902, it served the Ashkenazi Jewish population of Sarajevo. Unfortunately, it was devastated during the Second World War, and, also, later, during the Yugoslavian civil war of the 1990's.
It is the only functioning synagogue in today's Sarajevo.

Unfortunately, I could not go inside, since I was in Sarajevo in mid-August, when most of the small Jewish communities stop operating and the members of the communities go for vacation.
It's amazingly rich history and unbelievable architecture - even when seen from the outside only - makes me sure that this place deserves 5 stars.
