Made famous from Antonion Carlos Jobim's song "Girl from Ipanema", Ipanema is a pretty beach framed by elegant shops, art galleries, theatres and cafes. It's adjacent to Copacabana beach but has its own character.

A part of the beach is called 'gay beach" which is known for
being an especially gay friendly area of the beach.

Thanks to being less crowded than Copacabana, it amazed me not only because it is where Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes found inspiration for their well-known bossa-nova song "Garota de Ipanema" ;), but also beacause it is a place where you can take a breath and rest from all the bustle ..so typical for that vibrant city.

Sem duvida que ver o moro dos dois irmaos ao fundo da praia de Ipanema é fantastico, os restaurantes sao divinos, a minha loja favorita esta mesmo ao lado Osklen. Como é bom viver no Rio principalmente em Ipanema

Nice walkway/bikeway along the beach dotted with coconut stands and other snacks and street vendors. It is a nice beach, albeit crowded. The hotel and condo towers lining the beach... not so nice!

Who wouldn't want to go to see the beach where the famous song girl from Ipanema was written. You can actualyl go to the bar where they wrote the song and knock back a few local brews!

Whether it´s winter or summer, Ipanema beach is the best place to watch the sunset, hand out with your friends and enjoy the beautifull view of the most famous beach in Brazil.
