Description:
The Virgin Gorda Peak National Park, at 265 acres, is the largest park on the island. Its peak stands at 1,370 feet, making it the highest point on Virgin Gorda, and one of the highest points in the Virgin Islands. The wooden lookout tower situated at the peak gives you a panaromic view of the scenic Virgin Islands, including views of the North Sound, the island of Anegada, and as far away as St. Croix. Within the park, North Sound Road is the main trail, and there are two entrances to the park accessing this road. From either entrance, it is a 15 minute hike.
Virgin Gorda Peak Park is considered a dry forest, given the low rainfall the region receives. As a result, the plantlife has adapted, and the leaves take on a waxy texture to prevent water evaporation. Animal life includes several species of snakes, soldier crabs, birds, and the world's smallest lizard, the Virgin Gorda Gecko.
