Wat Banan
About Wat Banan
Wat Banan was built by Udayadityvarman II during the 11th century and is considered to be a rougher and mini version of Angkor Wat. It is accessible via a set of stairs that climb 359 steps, and is notable for having an outstanding view of the countryside. The five-towered structure is in good condition and has some excellent carved lintels. Some locals claim that Wat Banan inspired Angkor Wat, although this is generally agreed to be local legend rather than fact. Wat Banan is also called Wat Banana by the local children.
