About Wat Phnom Sampeau
Wat Phnom Sampeau is located southwest of Battambang on top of a limestone hill. At the top is a wat and a stupa as well as some field guns. The guns are from the civil was, as Wat Phnom Sampeau was on the front line of defense for Battambang. From the hill, you can also see a couple caves that were used as one of many Killing Fields by the Khmer Rouge. Some people recommend visiting Wat Banan also, since the route is convenient from Wat Phnom Sampeau.
