Koh Paen
About Koh Paen
Koh Paen is a long island in the Mekong River. The island is connected to the mainland during the dry season by a bamboo bridge made of large woven mats that are tightly tied together. These mats are supported by beams that appear haphazard, but provide significant support to the bridge. Still, the bridge can get a bit rocky when scooters zip across it. There is also a bamboo toll booth and sometimes repair works going on at the bridge. On the island itself is a traditional and friendly Khmer community set amidst tropical forests and many wats.
