Ghost Town
The abandoned French hill station of Bokor was created in 1922 at an altitude of 1071 meters, and included the grand Bokor Palace Hotel as the centerpiece of the small community.  It was well known for its refreshing climate, views, and waterfalls.  Bokor Hill Station was most popular in the 1920s, before being abandoned during an assault by Vietnamese independence forces in the late 1940s and during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s.  It is uninhabited now, but served as a strategic base for Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge forces during most of the last few decades.

The Bokor ghost town is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination. Highlights of the ghost town include the Catholic Church, and the Bokor Palace Hotel.  The Bokor Palace Hotel retains its outstanding views, and you can wander through the hallways and rooms.  The atmosphere in the hotel can get a bit scary on foggy days.  You can also wander through other abandoned buildings in town.
