Silver Pagoda
About Silver Pagoda
The Silver Pagoda (also known as Wat Preah Keo) was first built in 1892 out of wood and then rebuilt in 1962 in its present incarnation. It is the official temple of the King of Cambodia and is also the leading wat in Phnom Penh. Its name comes from the 5000 silver tiles (at 1kg each) that cover the floor. Inside the pagoda are objects of art that include a 17th century crystal statue called the Emerald Buddha and a life-sized gold Buddha covered with nearly 10,000 diamonds. There are many other Buddhas made of various precious medals as well. Further sights include jewelled masks that are used in dance, the mural of the Reamker epic, and stupas that contain the ashes of royal family members. This is one of the best places to see the artistic cultural riches of Cambodia. Entrance is covered by the ticket to see the Royal Palace, which is next door.

Feb 6, 2010 It's very beautiful, but you can't miss the royal palace and all the wats around it! I was there in November 2007 during the festivities for the reversal of the waters from the Tonle Sap, by pure chance, and it was quite an experience! The whole Pnhom Penh is worth a visit!
