'Angkor' means 'nagar' or town and 'Wat' means temple. Nearly 1000 years old but truly timeless - Angkor Wat is a Khmer temple built by king Suryavarman to tell the stories of the Ramayana the Mahabharat. Its walls are lined with bas-relief sculptures that depict moments like Bheeshma lying on a bed of nails or Karan fixing his chariot wheel in amazing detail. There are 3 levels and it takes half a day to see all of it. On the first level is a huge statue of Vishnu. And the longest wall has the 'Churning of the Ocean' story.
