The brick and sandstone temple of Ak Yom is located on the south side of the Western Baray.  It is in extremely poor condition (just a few stones and small parts of the structure poking out of the mound) and there is little of interest for most visitors to see.  It is very important to archaeologists though, being as the 8th century Angkorian ruins are perhaps the oldest in the region.  It is the first known example of the temple-mountain design that was used for Angkor Wat and other Angkorian temples.

Ak Yom is a boring site that you could easily overlook. Not worth your time other than a passing glance unless you were really into history.
