Prek Toal
About Prek Toal
Prek Toal is a biosphere and bird sanctuary that is located on Tonle Sap Lake. The types of birds that you can view at Prek Toal include storks, pelicans, cormorants, and many other species (including many rare versions of the above). There are few sites in Southeast Asia that have this concentration of rare bird species in a single location. Early morning or late afternoon during the dry season is the best times to visit Prek Toal. Binoculars and sun protection are recommended, although the former is available at the sanctuary. A full day trip is recommended to maximize the value of your trip.

Apr 20, 2010 Prek Toal is amazing. If you happen to be in Cambodia in the wet season, you don't want to miss this! In the wet season, the level of the lake Tonle Sap is very high, and Prek Toal is a submerged forest, with just the tops of trees sticking up out of the deep lake. This is the breeding season for many rare birds who nest in the trees. September through January are probably the best months for this trip - I went to Prek Toal in very early in November and it was great. Try to book with some sort of eco-tour company to minimize the negative impacts of tourism. Also, I recommend getting a tour that will take you through a floating village - they are pretty amazing.
