The 12th century Terrace of the Elephants is an impressive looking terrace wall that stands 2.5 meters tall and is 350 meters long.  It is part of Angkor Thom and was used by Jayavarman VII  during the height of the Khmer Empire as a giant viewing stand for grand military and public ceremonies, as well as the start of his audience hall for the attached palace of Phimeanakas (now mostly ruined).     The terrace is so named because of the parade of elephants carvings on its eastern face.  In addition to its adornment with elephant carvings, there are also impressive sculptures on the northern wall.   There are five outworks in total that extend towards the central square.
