About Ta Mok’s House
Ta Mok was a leading commander of the Khmer Rouge and was also known as the Butcher for his role in directing the murderous purges and massacres in Cambodia. His house was built on an island north of Takeo and featured numerous secret rooms and escape passages. The house is grand in size and has outstanding views, but is rather plain and drab otherwise. There are restoration plans in the future, but the site is primarily used as a meeting place for locals currently.
