Established in 1885, Banff National Park is one of Canada's oldest national parks.  It is located on the boundaries between British Columbia and Alberta, though the bulk of the park is within Alberta.

Banff National Park sprawls 6,641 square kilometres in size, and is filled with beautiful mountains, glacier covered valleys, forests, meadows, and rivers.  It is popular for a number of activities, including hiking, camping, canoeing, and fishing in the summer, cross country skiing and waterfall ice climbing in the winter.  Numerous wildlife, including the grizzly bear, are also within the park.

Popular spots within Banff National Park include Lake Louise, a beautiful glacier-fed turquoise lake, Peyto Lake, and the Icefields Parkway.

Lots of things to see in Banff. More to do if you are in to the "outdoors", but still plenty to do if you are the "shopper" type. If you are looking for a place to eat, Brunch at the Banff Springs Hotel is always a winner (but watch out, it is said to be haunted). Hiking is awesome, and if you are in to canoing, rent a canoe and paddle around through the glacier water lakes. The scenery is beautiful. The night life around Banff is pretty good. Local nights will get you cheaper drinks (Mels is an awesome bar I recommend for this, very laid back and fun), Hoodoos is a good "dance" bar

There is something for everybody in this place!!

One of the most beautiful places in the world, the wilderness is untouched by much development, it is quiet and clean, and it has year round appeal for everything from skiing to hiking .... there are laws and rules to follow however, so treat it with some respect. The summer time is the on season and should be taken into consideration as an expensive time to visit (plus the streets are PACKED with Asian and German tourist during the summer months).

Banff is glorious. When I used to live in Washington State we would pop over the border and camp in Banff. It can be rainy and cold, even in June/July so be prepared. Well worth the visit. span.jajahWrapper { font-size:1em; color:#B11196; text-decoration:underline; } a.jajahLink { color:#000000; text-decoration:none; } span.jajahInLink:hover { background-color:#B11196; }

Very nice. One of those places you must see if in the area. However, very "touristy" which means very expensive for no reason. I would (and have) stay in Canmore. Lots of hotels and a little cheaper than Banff itself.
