Jul 20, 2008 One of the best loop hikes within the Banff vicinity, the Mt Edith-Cory Pass loop is a 13km trail for strong hikers only. My preferred direction is to go counter-clockwise at the first trail junction at 1.1km - this takes you first towards Edith Pass, then skirting around the back through Gargoyle Valley and the dog-tooth spire of Mt. Louis looming above to the north. Eventually you'll ascend up to the Cory Pass, which opens up to expansive views of the Bow Valley and many of the mountain ranges across the valley. At an elevation of 2363m (7753ft), you'll more than likely be out of breath by this point. The trail then drops mercilessly down the south face, losing almost 950m of altitude (close to 3117 ft) over a distance of about 5.8km (just shy of 3.6 miles) - hiking poles will be a godsend on this slope.
