Petroglyphs
Located just south of Nanaimo, Petroglyph National Park is a small 2 hectare park showing traditional First Nations carvings from more than 1,000 years ago.  The carvings are accessible a short 300 metre walk from the parking lot that is located right off the highway.

We saw this place on a turnoff and spontaneously decided to visit. It's a small site so it's worth the stop to see the fascinating petroglyph symbols depicting various creatures. The only thing that was upsetting is that the soft sandstone rock was defaced by people also carving their names into the rock alongside the petroglyphs.
