Officially opened in 1898, the British Columbia Parliament buildings is the seat of the Legislative Assembly of BC. The current buildings are in replacement of the previous wooden buildings that were drafty and leaky. The old buildings were known as the "birdcages" for their shape. Although some of the old buildings were initially preserved, they have all been destroyed due to a fire. The current building is a combination of Baroque and Romanesque Revival architecture.

It is possible to take guided tours of the buildings.

The Parliament Building in Victoria is pretty interesting looking, with beautiful looking grounds, and a nice setting near the Inner Harbour. Guided tours are available in the summer, and you can see the impressive looking interior as well as get a taste of BC's history.

You can get on the BC ferry from Horseshoe Bay, North Vancouver or form Tsawwassen to Victoria. Very beautiful scenery and relaxing to walk long the inner harbour.
