Butchart Gardens was founded in 1904 as the Butchart family established their home and has since grown to cover 55 acres.  It is maintained year round by 50 gardeners and is now world famous, with the colorful Sunken Gardens as its centerpiece. Other highlights include the Rose Garden and the Show Greenhouse.  Ownership of Butchart Gardens remains within the Butchart family.

The gardens are located about 23 km north of Victoria, in between Victoria and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.

If coming from Victoria and you don't have a car, I highly suggest foregoing an expensive group tour and taking the city bus instead. Although it takes slightly longer to get there this way, you can stay at the garden as long as you want without any tour group time constraint and it considerably cheaper. The Victoria Visitors Center (at the heart of the Inner Harbour) has a map and full bus schedule for the route to the gardens.

If you are going to be in Victoria, do not miss Butchart Gardens. Even my husband who is such a manly-man was mesmerized by its beauty. Never seen anything like it. You will get some of the most beautiful photos here. Every flower imaginable in such stunning settings. I've heard every season is different but just as spectacular. We went in the Fall.

Incredible. Now keep in mind that I am not a garden or flower fanatic, but this place is so beautiful and impressive that you honestly don't have to be to REALLY enjoy this place. Worth the trip up from Victoria, B.C., and a great day trip, especially when everything is in full bloom. If you're on the fence, go -- you'll love it.

Butchart Gardens is an amazing place to spend the day. However coming to the Gardens by boat through the bay makes for a far more amazing experience. The bay on the backside of the Gardens is filled with phosepherous algae. After dark the water errupts in glowing paths as fish swim past you.

STUNNING, I really enjoy lush and greenery and here is just such a extravagant arrangement of floral surroundings. So peaceful and full of serenity, no one who comes to Victoria Canada can pass this up!
