Bay of Fundy
About Bay of Fundy
The Bay of Fundy situated in the Atlantic coast between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, is known to have the greatest difference between high and low tides in the world (tied with Ungawa Bay.)
The tide variation is thought to come from tidal resonance - the lunar cycle of the tide coincides with the natural sloshing period of the bay, which amplifies the effect of water travelling. Additionally, the shape of the bay creates a funneling effect. All this together means that the difference between high and low tide can vary by 16.8 metres! A popular destination within the Bay of Fundy is Hopewell Rocks, which features tall rock formations resting on thin pillars formed due to the wear and sculpting from tides over the years. Another interesting destinatino are the Reversing Falls near Saint Johns, New Brunswick. As the tide shifts, the Reversing Falls will travel in different directions! Payment Accepted:

Oct 12, 2008 Very cool experience! Watching the tides at the Bay of Fundy is kind of eery, as it proves to you how strong the forces of nature can be. You can wake up to waves lapping along the shores nearby, then return in the evening and not even be able to see the water, the tides are that big! Head to Hopewell Rocks for a cool experience with the tides.
