Jul 2, 2010 This island, situated in the mouth of the Halifax Harbour, has been settled by many people over the years. There is evidence that the Mi'kmaq used the island over 1600 years ago. In the 1700's French settlers were known to have been on the island, followed not long after by British settlers. Eventually the island was used as an artillery base to protect the harbour from attack, leading up to WW2 when access to the island was heavily restricted. The park today is fantastic, and a great place to go for a day trip or to spend a few days camping! Related Links
